As one of the oldest towns in North Texas, McKinney was founded in 1841, named after Colin McKinney, a progressive settler who served under eight different governments in various roles. Settlers arrived in the area from Kentucky, Arkansas, and Tennessee. McKinney has many historic neighborhoods, complete with large, restored homes from the 1800’s.

Historic Downtown SquareThe Historic Downtown Square in McKinney is home to over 100 shops, restaurants, art galleries, gift stores and boutiques for all tastes and income levels. If you’re a food connoisseur, you’ll be delighted to know that many of the restaurants feature award-winning cuisine with top chefs.

McKinney Parks & Recreation

If you want to unwind and take in the surrounding nature, go to the Towne Lake recreation area, which has a beautiful lake with lots of great trails, playgrounds and picnic areas. They even have paddle boats! McKinney is also home to the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, a 289-acre outdoor preserve and nature museum.

McKinney Sports

The annual Mickey Mantle baseball tournament is held here and the city is home to the McKinney Marshals, a college team. In addition, McKinney is home to the Tournament Players Club at Craig Ranch, a great PGA golf course. Eight other courses can be found in McKinney as well. The Cooper Aerobics Center, a large and world reknown fitness facility, is also found here.

McKinney : Welcoming Business

The local economy includes retail, office and manufacturing businesses. The largest employers include Raytheon, Blockbuster, Lattimore Materials, Encore Wire, the McKinney Medical Center, United American Insurance, Timber Blind Manufacturing, Orthofix and Simpson Strong-Tie.

Supporting the economy is an affluent and well-educated population. 48 percent of McKinney residents have college degrees, the average age is 31. Average income is $94,000.

Collin County Regional Airport is a great new corporate airport serving for businesses all over the McKinney area.
